Helix Piercing and Helix Orbital Piercing- What’s the Difference

It is very common to many having their earlobes pierced and one of these two peircings is placed high on the ear. This is called helix piercing and not cartilage piercing as many thought. This is because the entire ear is made-up of cartilage.

Any piercing not on your earlobe is a cartilage piercing, the second and the third holes ascending from the earlobe are cartilage peircings. Helix is the most popular piercing in America next to earlobes. Helix piercing was the first among all industrial piercing. Unfortunately though many got their piercing done in malls using a piercing gun, this could be a dangerous act for you. If you want to have your piercing done, you must seek for a professional help. Go to a professional piercing parlor instead, to be assured of your safety. You will be sure that they are using a sterile and safe needle rather than a piercing gun that is unhygienic and damaging.

Holes pierced with hoop or rings are easier and faster to heal so most probably your piercer will recommend you this first before using the real barbell for your industrials, but of course, the decision is still yours. With the proper care and sanitation, your industrials will heal fast.

You will be asked by your piercer to sit on a chair that is almost similar to a dentist’s chair. He will then mark your ear and will ask you if you are satisfied with the location your piercing will be placed. Then he will push a needle to your helix and you have your piercing done instantly. The pain will only last for seconds. There have been rumors that your hearing, speech, nervous system, balance, etc will be affected. Do not believe it, those are just rumors.

A helix orbital on the other hand has two HELIX piercings that are joined together by a single piece of circular jewelry, hence, the name ORBITAL. This is to differentiate it to an industrial piercing where two holes are joined by a single straight bar called barbell. Helix orbital piercing is more complicated because your piercer needs to measure the distance of the two holes correctly.

Though it may look and feel okay after six months, your piercing is not yet fully healed. Usually cartilage piercing takes a year until it is fully healed. Before changing your jewelry, allow your piercing to heal first. Helix piercing is a great way to express your creativity and individuality.
